Spotify’s Loud & Clear reports are among the most cited datasets in arguments about streaming economics because they appear to answer a simple question: is streaming generating meaningful money for music? On that narrow question, the figures are powerful evidence. They show that Spotify has become a major source of industry revenue, paying more than US$11 billion to the music industry in 2025 and nearly US$70 billion over its lifetime. What it does not demonstrate is how much of that revenue ultimately reaches the individual creators whose music generated it. The gap between those two measurements is where most of the controversy over streaming economics continues to live.
